Connector reliability test project and its test standard

Connector testing generally involves the following items: insertion force test, durability test, insulation resistance test, vibration test, mechanical impact test, thermal shock test, mixed gas corrosion test, etc.


The specific test items of the connector are as follows:


(1) Connector insertion force test

Reference standard: EIA-364-13

Purpose: To verify that the plug-in force of the connector meets the product specifications.

Principle: The connector is fully inserted or pulled out at a specified rate, and the corresponding force value is recorded.


(2) Connector durability test

Reference standard: EIA-364-09

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of repeated insertion and removal on the connector and simulate the insertion and removal of the connector in actual use.

Principle: The connector is continuously inserted and removed at a specified rate until the specified number of times is reached.


(3) Connector insulation resistance test

Reference standard: EIA-364-21

Purpose: To verify whether the insulation performance of the connector meets the requirements of circuit design or when subjected to high temperature, humidity and other environmental stresses, whether the resistance value meets the requirements of relevant technical conditions.

Principle: A resistance value is applied by applying a voltage to an insulating portion of a connector to cause a leakage current to be generated on the surface or inside of the insulating portion.


(4) Connector withstand voltage test

Reference standard: EIA-364-20

Purpose: To verify the connector's ability to operate safely at rated voltage and to withstand overpotentials to assess connector insulation or insulation clearance.

Principle: Between the connector contact and the contact, a specified voltage is applied between the contact and the housing for a specified period of time to observe whether the sample has breakdown or discharge.


(5) Connector contact resistance test

Reference standard: EIA-364-06/EIA-364-23

Purpose: To verify the resistance generated when current flows through the contact surface of the contact.

Principle: By measuring the current through the connector, the voltage drop across the connector is measured to obtain the resistance value.


(6) Connector vibration test

Reference standard: EIA-364-28

Purpose: To verify the effect of vibration on the performance of electrical connectors and their components.

Vibration type: random vibration, sinusoidal vibration.


(7) Connector mechanical impact test

Reference standard: EIA-364-27

Purpose: To verify the ability of the connector and its components to withstand impact or to assess the structural strength of the connector.

Test waveform: half sine wave, square wave.


(8) Connector thermal shock test

Reference standard: EIA-364-32

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of the connector on its functional quality under rapid large temperature differences.


(9) Connector temperature and humidity combined cycle test

Reference standard: EIA-364-31

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of connectors on connector performance after storage in a high temperature, high humidity environment.


(10) Connector high temperature test

Reference standard: EIA-364-17

Purpose: To assess whether the terminal and insulator properties have changed after exposure to a high temperature environment for a specified period of time.


(11) Connector salt spray test

Reference standard: EIA-364-26

Purpose: To evaluate the salt spray resistance of connectors, terminals and coatings.


(12) Connector mixed gas corrosion test
